Howard Johnson is a graduate of St. Edmund Hall, Oxford, with a Post-graduate Qualification in Education from Oxford University. He is also a graduate of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Language and Literature.
He has worked in teaching and education-related positions for 35 years, both public and private, academic and corporate, in Europe, North America and primarily Brazil. Howard was Arthur Andersen’s Director of Training in Brazil for 12 years, and VP for Corporate Executive Development with Yellow Pages for 4 years. For the last 8 years he has run his own management training and communication company, “Options”.
Howard is an advocate of communication as a key organizational tool, and in his business practice focuses heavily on communication skills, both oral and written, for small and large groups. He also works with written communication in both Portuguese and English. Communication also means understanding other cultures. Having lived and worked in Britain, France and Brazil and worked in Finland, Spain, Canada, Argentina, Chile and the US, Howard understands the importance of language and culture in business, and works frequently with these topics, sometimes in multi-cultural workshops.
He has worked with many of the largest multi-nationals in Brazil, and has in-depth experience of working with law firms, consulting companies, commodities companies and manufacturing industry, working with communication programmes, facilitating strategic planning meetings, and running creative-problem solving workshops and change management programs.
Howard is a Councillor of the British Chamber of Commerce in Brazil and Chairman of the Chamber’s Marketing Committee. He has worked as Associate Professor for Henley Business College and has also founded and run an NGO for several years, helping students to understand the labour market. He has written extensively on business and communication topics and also participated actively in Human Resources seminars and events.
